- פְּחִיתm., פְּחִיתָא f. = h. פָּחוּת, 1) less. Snh.97b; Succ.45b לא פ׳ עלמאוכ׳ (ed. פחות) the world has never less than thirty-six righteous men worthy to face the Shekhinah, in every generation. 2) defective, broken. Lam. R. to III, 16 after having eaten all his food נסיב חד פת פ׳וכ׳ he took a broken loaf and put ashes on it. Ib. to I, 1 (רבתי) הדא מנהון פ׳ וסמיכאוכ׳ one of them (beds) was broken and leaning against another bed; a. e. 3) mean, wretched. Cant. R. to II, 5 (read:) ואת בעי … להדא פ׳ and thou wouldst forsake thy God and bow to his wretched (idol)?
